3rd Annual Village BBQ at the Vicarage

17/6/2024

The Vicar has again offered her garden for a Village Barbecue on Saturday, 6th July from 1 pm onwards.  We hope we shall see a good number of you all there again, as it has previously been a very enjoyable occasion.  If you are new to the village since last summer please come along and meet some of the villagers you may not yet know.

We are asking for donations in the region of £10 per person to defray the cost of the food.  If you are able to come it would be helpful if you could let us know so that we can have an idea of numbers for catering.

Look forward to seeing you there (and rather warmer weather by then!).

Footpaths

17/6/2024

The Parish Council is doing its best to get the first ‘verge cut’ completed as soon as possible. The cut includes cutting along ‘Siberia’ and the footpath that runs from Cherry Orchard behind ‘the Ranch’ and the pavement along the Coxwell Road. We will also ask if the contractors can do the visibility splays at the top of the Holloway if OCC haven’t got round to that by the time they attend. Hopefully, this will make getting around easier soon. We had requested the cut as early in June as possible but the contractors are very busy due to so many towns and parishes like ourselves delaying their cuts due to no-mow May.

Since 2017, the parish council have been responsible for cutting the grass on the verges within the current 20mph zone of the village as well as the Siberia and behind the Ranch footpaths. The requirement is that we cut them at least once a year.  However, we budget for at least 2 cuts and we do want to keep them passable, so we apologise that the timing has been off this year and we will reconsider how we time the cuts for next year. The areas outside the 20mph zone are not our official responsibility and whilst we do get some of them cut, they remain an OCC statutory responsibility and can be reported on fix my street if you feel that is necessary.

Green Spaces Survey

7/6/2024

Land use experts at LUC are supporting South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils to gather information about greenspaces in the districts.

Green Infrastructure and Open Space - public survey

As part of this we are asking residents and organisations to complete a short online survey to understand how you use greenspaces in your local area. This ranges from parks and recreation grounds to natural spaces like woodlands and meadows.

The survey runs from Thursday 30 May to Sunday 30 June 2024.

Please take part in the survey here:

Art Weeks Café

5/6/2024

We would like to thank all of you who contributed to Art Weeks in our Village, including the many talented Artists who make this possible and choose to exhibit here in Great Coxwell.

The Pop Up Café was once again a resounding success and without you the people who worked the shifts, made cakes and donated food or money to buy food this would not be possible. Not forgetting also those of you who came and had either Lunch or  Teas & Coffees.

All the money raised from the Café goes into our Village Community Fund and we are pleased to say that we have made over £2000 profit from our endeavours.

This fund is accessible to all people who live in the Village so if you have any new ideas for a new club or project that would enhance our Village please get in touch with the Committee. We are here to support you to get started.

Once again Many Thanks for your continued support.
