HOT SPOTS!

14/10/2022

Faringdon Town has put its efforts together to come up with a warm space five days a week where anyone can go to meet others, be part of the community, do activities, be warm, get information, make friends, volunteer, work and have food, all on a donation only basis.

Sarah Oliver and myself are organising Fridays and are looking for helpers. We will be working from 9am - 5pm in the Catholic Church Hall in Faringdon, every Friday till and including 16th December and then again till March. If you think you might have a few hours to spare on a Friday to help in anyway - being a friendly face when folk arrive, cooking, tidying up, book keeping, making a cake, bringing a friend along, then please be in touch and join us.

Email openkitchenfaringdon@gmail.com or message/call 07766 954 559.
Thanks Annabelle (Zinovieff, Chapel House)

Jane Holmes is planting up all sorts of things (and will be taking orders at the end of April to raise funds for St Giles). Does anyone have any old spare 6 or 8 cell bedding plant trays please? If so, please leave them in Jane's garage (pink cottage Foxley at the bottom of the village) or contact sylvia.athawes@btinternet.com if you'd like them collected.

Citizens Advice needs volunteer advisers

18/1/2021

We can all face problems that are too stressful or complicated to sort out alone.

In 2019 our 150 volunteers advised over 11,000 people. We helped three quarters resolve their debt, benefits, employment and housing problems.

We now need more advisers to help us during and after the Covid-19 crisis.

Our main offices are in Abingdon, Didcot, Henley and Thame. Since March 2020, 90 volunteers and staff have been advising the public from home on our Adviceline service. Recently we partially re-opened our offices, in part to train new advisers.

What will you get out of it?  You will join a friendly team, meet new people, develop your skills and make a real difference to people’s lives.

You’ll need to have good listening and interpersonal skills, a willingness to learn and be confident with computers. Full training will be provided.

If you have eight hours a week to spare for the next two years or more and are looking for a satisfying and stimulating volunteer role in your local community, please contact us at:

Wanted - Jigsaw Puzzles

14/12/2020

I have an 89 year old mother who is unable to go out much.  What keeps her going through these difficult times are jigsaw puzzles.  Unfortunately she has exhausted her supply of puzzles and so I thought I would just ask that should anybody have a puzzle (or two) at the back of the cupboard that they don't want anymore whether they would mind letting me have them so that I can pass them on to her (the more difficult the better!).

Westmill Woodland Burial Ground

27/7/2020

Westmill Woodland burial ground near Watchfield offers a beautiful non-denominational burial ground for people of all faiths or none.  It is run as a not for profit Community Interest Company and you can find out more about us by visiting www.woodlandburialwestmill.co.uk.

Due to Covid 19 restrictions we have lost some of our core staff who need to isolate or shield so we are looking for a few more people to come along and help at funerals on an ad-hoc basis.  You need to be physically fit, have transport, like working with people and being outside (in all weathers!).  Most funerals take about 3-4 hours with set up and clear up time but they can be longer or shorter as each one is tailored to the needs of that family.  We offer training and our team find the work very rewarding. If you are interested give us a call in the office 01367 700615 Monday, Wednesday or Friday morning 10-1.

Please spread the word.

Thank you.
Liz Rothschild.

Wanted

7/7/2020

Wanted:  Anyone in the locality at a loose end, and willing/able to do some stone-wall re-pointing?  He/she does not need to be a professional builder, I'm looking for someone who's just happy to stand there for a few hours, scrape out the dust and replace with a bucket or several of lime-mortar, which I'll provide. No scaffolding. Name your price!
