A message from Peter and Lauren Gale
We have just started the petition "REFUGEES WELCOME IN FARINGDON" and wanted to ask if you could add your name too. You can read more and sign the petition here: http://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/refugees-welcome-in-faringdon Also, can you share the petition with others in the area? If you can, please would you forward this message or share this link on Facebook or Twitter: http://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/refugees-welcome-in-faringdon We have noticed that this subject is item 8 on the agenda for the next Town Council meeting on Wednesday, so your participation would be timely! Thank you! This is to let you know that I will be raising funds for the Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust and for the four churches in the Badbury Group of Churches which I serve as parish priest, by way of the annual Ride and Stride event on September 12th, which is organised by the Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust. I've decided to participate in the event this year, partly in order to raise funds for Oxfordshire's historic churches (and specifically for Buscot, Coleshill, Eaton Hastings and Great Coxwell) and also because having been just been appointed Area Dean, it's a good way of engaging with the churches in my patch.
I will be cycling round as many churches in the deanery as I can comfortably manage (my target is around twelve) and am seeking sponsorship for this event either by way of a fixed sum or for £x per church visited. All I need is an indication of the amount pledged, whether you are able to Gift Aid the amount, and the church or churches you would like to support. Alternatively, you might like me to divide the amount equally between the four churches. I don't need you to sign any form - all I need is your post-code, which I have - and an e-mail confirming your support. I am conscious that many people supported me in my Sponsored Slimming venture on behalf of my four churches a couple of years ago, for which I was very grateful. This is not explicitly another slimming initiative although I hope the result will be the loss of a few pounds for the sake of attracting many pounds! Any help will be much appreciated. David Williams August 13th, 2015 September 8th - WI meeting in the Reading Room 7.30pm. All women welcome.

Phoebe Rose has an exceptional talent and versatility for one so young, placing her firmly in a tradition of female singer-‐songwriters that ranges from legends like Carole King, Joni Mitchell and Kate Bush to more contemporary artists such as Adele, Gabrielle Aplin, Amy Winehouse, Alicia Keys and Beyonce, with a little bit of Ella Fitzgerald sometimes thrown in for good measure! She started singing as soon as she could talk and has been writing songs since she was nine. Phoebe goes to Oxford High School and takes her GCSE’s next summer. She plans to stay on to do A levels in music, drama, history and maths and hopes to go on to study music at university. Her dream is for a life on the stage. THERE HAS BEEN A BURGLARY AT FIVE ELMS, HOLLOW WAY, GREAT COXWELL. DID YOU NOTICE ANYTHING UNUSUAL?
On Thursday 3rd September, between noon and 3.30pm, burglars entered Five Elms in Hollow Way. They locked themselves in the house, ransacked every cupboard and drawer for jewellery, antiques and valuables, and let themselves out by the back French doors. When one of the owners returned at 3.30pm they were unable to enter by the front door and called the police. If you noticed anyone or anything unusual, either near Five Elms (house on left hand side leaving the village before Court House) or elsewhere in the village this afternoon, PLEASE HELP BY CALLING THE POLICE TO REPORT IT NOW (101). Also - Between 5.15pm on Sunday (30/8) and 8.30am on Monday (31/8), The Church of St Mary in Buscot, was burgled. Offenders gained entry via a rear window and stole candle holders and candles. The candle holders were found and recovered outside the church. Between Friday (28/8) and Tuesday (1/9), the Church of All Saints in Coleshill, was burgled. Offenders smashed a rear window to gain entry. Items were moved around inside the church, but it is not known at this time if any property was stolen. ST GILES, GREAT COXWELL PLEASE TAKE CARE NEGOTIATING THE STILE FROM THE CHURCHYARD. IT IS BROKEN AND IS BEING REPLACED. There is a completely new planning application for Steed's Farm. The site is back to 200 houses including social housing. This is up from the original application for 150 houses but less than the 250 recently proposed. The build area is Faringdon's side of the Steeds Farm track. However there is no mention of any roundabout least of all a second roundabout on the B4095 which would assure ready egress from the village, or of a commitment to keep the fields between Great Coxwell and the build area as our Green Buffer (a designation that has come from our village Neighbourhood Plan) or of planting protection in this area. We have until 17th September to comment. It would be good if we could all comment on this new application.... again.
See our Planning Applications page for the links to this application, including the web form for your comments |
