Faringdon and District U3A in February 2018
The Story of the Volkswagen Beetle will be told by our speaker Bob MacFarlane in the Corn Exchange on Thursday 8th February 2018 at 2.30pm.  The Volkswagen Beetle, officially the Volkswagen Type 1, was manufactured and marketed by the German car maker Volkswagen from 1938 until 2003.  This talk will take you through the life of the VW Beetle from utility vehicle to film star, and will touch briefly on the history of the British car industry.  If you are a car enthusiast, interested in recent history, or just interested, this talk will appeal.  Refreshments will be provided after the talk.  All members are welcome but visitors are required to pay an entrance fee of £1.50.  Further details can be obtained from the chairman Peter Smith on 01367 241 241 or  found on the website www.faringdondistrictu3a.wordpress.com

26/1/2018

Great Coxwell Parish Council are desperately looking for someone to take over the bookings for the reading room. Until we have a manager for the room we are unable to book anyone in to use it. Please spread the word. It is about 2 hours of work a week looking after our village hall and it urgently needs a volunteer.

Avian Flu latest advice and update

21/1/2018

Cases of bird flu have recently been confirmed in Dorset and Warwickshire, which has resulted in a national response led by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

At this moment in time no cases have been reported in Hampshire or the Thames Valley region.

For the latest update, including the current situation and advice for bird owners, please visit the DEFRA website here: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/avian-influenza-bird-flu-in-winter-2017-to-2018

Wild Birds
If you find dead wild waterfowl (swans, geese or ducks) or other dead wild birds, such as gulls or birds of prey, you should report them to the DEFRA helpline 03459 33 55 77.

Police may then collect some of these birds and test them to help understand how the disease is distributed geographically and in the different types of bird.

Water pressure Puddleduck Lane

21/1/2018

Some of you will have experienced a lack of water or a lack of water pressure this morning.  There was a burst water main on the Snowswick Road.

It is being repaired but by now you should have full pressure,  They had turned off the pumps in Faringdon, but have now isolated the burst so we can be reconnected.

The sheep in the Great Barn Nativity scene are losing their woolly coats. If anyone has an old sheep skin jacket or similar that we could use to smarten them up could you please contact Jo or Mary and we will come and collect?

Thank you.
