Artweeks 2023

4/11/2022

Great Coxwell Artists would love to hear from any budding artists out there who would like to join us for Artweeks on 7th/(8th - depending on possible Bank Holiday) and 13th/14th May 2023. You would need to provide your own venue in the village - garden shed, conservatory, garage etc. as all our usual venues are full.

Registrations for Artweeks need to be in before the end of the year - hence why I'm sending this out so far in advance.

Oxfordshire Artweeks is an amazing month-long event with hundreds of art spaces open for free throughout the county. Great Coxwell Artweeks is renowned in the area, not just for the variety of wonderful art works but for the Reading Room Cafe with its loyal band of volunteers providing delicious coffees, lunches and teas. The plant stall and floral displays at the church are always popular too.

Please get in touch if you're interested and would like to know more - I look forward to hearing from you!

Artweeks

27/5/2022

I would like to say a big thank you to all the people who supported Art Weeks, this is the main Fundraising Event for the Village and it was good to have it back.

A massive thank you to those who worked in the Café and also to those people who provided food, cakes and gave donations to buy food.

With all of your help this meant we kept our expenses down to under £100. This resulted in a net profit of £2425.25 which has been paid into the Community Fund.

Best  Wishes
Pam

Contemplation for Arts Week

13/5/2022

The plans for the Contemplation Garden at St Gile’s Church are progressing well and we are open to visitors during Arts Week. The garden is being managed to encourage a diversity of wildlife and wildflowers and to be used as an area for quiet contemplation

A recent survey identified 132 species of plants and shrubs in this small area and further surveys of insects, birds and animal life are planned. A cherry tree in the centre of the garden has been planted to mark the Queen's platinum jubilee. This tree will be dedicated on Friday 3rd June at 11am.

A waymarked path leads through the areas of wildflowers and encourages reflection. Special contemplation leaflets have been produced to aid peoples’ reflections. These will be available in the Church and Reading Room. Please visit the garden, enjoy the birdsong and beautiful views across the Vale and rest awhile.

Plants and flowers: Plants will be on sale at the church during the weekends of Arts Week and the church is open to view several floral displays and old historic church documents.

Art Weeks Café

22/4/2022

As you can all see Art Weeks is returning to Great Coxwell. This is our big Fundraising Event for the Village and our Café in the Reading Room provides the Refreshments. We are open from 11am to 5pm.

To enable us to do this we need volunteers to serve in the Café and Bakers to make Cakes.

This means we need 40 shifts covered in the Café  and 50 Cakes to be baked.

As you can see from small beginnings this has grown over the years and we attract many visitors.

This means we have raised almost £20,000 for the Village. All the money raised is used for projects within the Village.

For this to carry on and succeed we do need your help. If you are able to help please phone Pam on 240233 and I will be able to tell you what shifts need covering and Cakes needed.

Dates required 14 & 15th May and 21st & 22nd May

Thankyou

Ceramics, Drawing, Jewellery, Painting, Pottery, Sculpture, Quilts, Wirework, Wood: after a 2 year break, the picturesque village of Great Coxwell is once again playing host to ten artists and craftspeople over two weekends for Oxfordshire Artweeks. Follow the trail map from the beautiful Great Barn, where there will be a demonstration of green woodworking, down to the 12th century church, where you can stock up your garden and allotment from the plant stall. On the way, call into the Stable Studio where you will find ceramics and stone carving, and Peter's Barn and the Chicken Barn where you can see quilts, painting, digital art and wire modelling. Down the lane, stop off at Chapel House to see jewellery and paintings before taking a well-earned break in the Reading Room where there will be delicious homemade refreshments all day; teas/coffees, lunches and the most amazing cakes!

Great Coxwell Artists look forward to meeting you!

Open 14/15 and 21/22 May, 11 – 5. Venue number 203

Great Coxwell Artists - Artweeks 2022

2/12/2021

It is our pleasure to announce that Great Coxwell Artists will be making a comeback for Artweeks 2022.

This will take place over the two weekends of 14th/15th and 21st/22nd May 2022.

If you would like to join our group then now is the time to let us know. We are in the process of making our application to 'Oxfordshire Artweeks' so if you are an artist/artisan who lives in the village and would like to open your studio/house/garage/garden to visitors to exhibit and sell your work then please let us know by 10th December - email to valerie.hughes58@gmail.com

All the usual venues will be up and running. We would also like to thank all the residents for being so welcoming and encouraging and enabling us to raise considerable sums for the village, through Artweeks, via visitor purchases at the reading room cafe and plant stall at the church.
