Pilot Officer James William Edmonds DFC - 466 Sqdn, RAF Volunteer Reserve

James Edmonds DFC died on 4th July 1943, he was only 21 years old. He served with 466 Squadron of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. His final mission was to Cologne and would have been his 30th and last sortie of his tour of duty. His DFC was awarded on 28th July 1944 - as noted in the London Gazette.

Pilot. Officer James William EDMONDS (142522) (deceased), R.A.F.V.R., 466 (R.A.A.F.) Sqn.,with effect from 2nd July 1943.

He is buried at Heverlee War Cemetery in Belgium.

He was born in 1922 the son of Annie and Robert of Faringdon,their other son was Robert John Edmonds

James is commemorated on the Great Coxwell memorial and in St. Giles Church.
