Great Coxwell has a new author!
Well, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but after 40 years, I have finally written an account of my Troop's experiences in the Falklands War. It's called 'Belonging to 2 Troop, a Falklands Memoir' and its out now, through Riverside Publishing Ltd or direct to me. Back in 1982, I was a young Royal Engineers Captain, serving with 9 Parachute Squadron, Royal Engineers. My troop of 52 parachute engineers sailed on the MV Norland with 2 Para, cross-decked to go ashore on D-Day with 3 Para, marched across East Falkland, fought in the Battle for Mount Longdon and cleared minefields around Port Stanley before sailing home. The Troop has stuck together over the years and is due to hold its 40th Anniversary reunion in July. The book is for them, and I have gifted a copy to each living member and to the widows and families of those no longer with us. The BBC ran with the story last week. I include an article they published on Thursday. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-61161784.amp My aim in selling copies is just to recover my publishing costs. (Paperback £9.99, Hardback £14.99) I hope you can support me. Thank you. Robbie Burns 07799 337246 [email protected] As you can all see Art Weeks is returning to Great Coxwell. This is our big Fundraising Event for the Village and our Café in the Reading Room provides the Refreshments. We are open from 11am to 5pm.
To enable us to do this we need volunteers to serve in the Café and Bakers to make Cakes. This means we need 40 shifts covered in the Café and 50 Cakes to be baked. As you can see from small beginnings this has grown over the years and we attract many visitors. This means we have raised almost £20,000 for the Village. All the money raised is used for projects within the Village. For this to carry on and succeed we do need your help. If you are able to help please phone Pam on 240233 and I will be able to tell you what shifts need covering and Cakes needed. Dates required 14 & 15th May and 21st & 22nd May Thankyou Easter Services (14th - 17th April) Maundy Thursday, - Holy Communion at St Giles, 7pm Good Friday - Service at Coleshill at 3pm Easter Day - Holy Communion at Eaton Hastings at 9am and Buscot at 10.30am Calling all children - Easter Egg Hunt!
Ceramics, Drawing, Jewellery, Painting, Pottery, Sculpture, Quilts, Wirework, Wood: after a 2 year break, the picturesque village of Great Coxwell is once again playing host to ten artists and craftspeople over two weekends for Oxfordshire Artweeks. Follow the trail map from the beautiful Great Barn, where there will be a demonstration of green woodworking, down to the 12th century church, where you can stock up your garden and allotment from the plant stall. On the way, call into the Stable Studio where you will find ceramics and stone carving, and Peter's Barn and the Chicken Barn where you can see quilts, painting, digital art and wire modelling. Down the lane, stop off at Chapel House to see jewellery and paintings before taking a well-earned break in the Reading Room where there will be delicious homemade refreshments all day; teas/coffees, lunches and the most amazing cakes!
Great Coxwell Artists look forward to meeting you! Open 14/15 and 21/22 May, 11 – 5. Venue number 203 To Everyone in Great Coxwell..
We are very sad that we cannot lead the Palm Sunday Procession with one of our donkeys. We had to make the very difficult decision to have little Fee put down last week at the age of 31yrs, 27 of which were spent with us. Dora now has a new companion, an 8yr old gelding called Kevin. He was born in Northern Ireland in 2014 and has spent most of his life moving from one home to another and as a result he is very nervous and frightened. Dora, who worked as a pack donkey in Bulgaria, is trying very hard to look after and make friends with Kevin but it is early days. We are very grateful for the interest and support we have from the village for our donkeys. Happy Easter to everyone, Angela and Peter Scales. I will be doing a drop off to Asylum welcome next Tuesday 12th.
If you would like to give, dried, tinned, long life food, toiletries, cereal, biscuits etc. They are short of nappies size 5&6. To Clayton Villa. Thank you Sally To the ladies of Great Coxwell,
