Revision of St Giles Electoral Roll

25/3/2024

The Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) for St Giles Church is fast approaching (Tuesday 30th April 2024 at 7pm in the Reading Room). In preparation of this, we need to revise our Church’s electoral roll so we now invite people to apply to be on that roll.

Why should you be on the St Giles’ electoral roll?
  • In the same way that being on the civic electoral roll allows you to vote in parliamentary and local elections and referenda, being on the St Giles Electoral Roll means that you can vote on Church matters and any relevant issues at the APCM. This includes the right to nominate people or stand for election to the Parochial Church Council (PCC).
  • The roll affects the maximum number of PCC lay members that we can have from our village.  More people on the electoral roll brings a wider and varied representation of views and talents available to our local church and the wider Anglican church.

To qualify for the electoral roll

Any lay person is entitled to have their name entered on the Church’s roll if the person is:
(a) baptised
(b) aged 16 or over
(c) or can make one of the following declarations when applying for enrolment:
  1. The person is a member of the Church of England or of a Church in communion with it and is resident in the parish.
  2. The person is a member of the Church of England or of a Church in communion with it, is not resident in the parish but has habitually attended public worship in the parish during the preceding six months.
  3. The person is a member in good standing of a Church which is not in communion with the Church of England but subscribes to the doctrine of the Holy Trinity and has habitually attended public worship in the parish during the preceding six months.
For an Electoral Roll Application Form please get in touch with

Sylvia Athawes (07923 563662)  [email protected] or
the Vicar Maureen Turner (01367 240875),
or the Church Warden, Pat Cook

To ensure you (and and all your family and friends) are in the draw, please print the form, fill in the names of participants and return the slip below to Biddy Rounce, Glebe House.

Mothering Sunday this week

8/3/2024

Mothering Sunday - this Sunday, 10th March!

Have you remembered that this Sunday is Mothering Sunday?  I know a lot of people haven't realised.

We will be having a service in the church at 10.30 am to celebrate our mothers.  Please do come and join us.  There will be posies for all the ladies (you don't have to be a mother, we all have or had one!) and coffee/tea and cake afterwards.

We look forward to seeing you.

Pat

Manus Noble - Concert cancelled

7/3/2024

We regret that Sunday's concert had to be cancelled due to Manus Noble getting Covid.  The responsible thing for him was to stay in Ireland, and not travel anywhere.

Best wishes,
Lynette

Musical weekend - 8/3 and 10/3

4/3/2024

Dear all, just a reminder about the two concerts coming in the church. Tickets are completely free, but donations will be welcome, and will go towards the upkeep of the church as well as the piano. You can make donations and book at:

https://www.whitehorseconcerts.co.uk/stonevaleconcerts

or reserve your seat by emailing me ([email protected]).

STONEVALE CONCERTS

Friday 8th March at 7 pm,  Abingdon School's talented musicians will reach out to our community and give a concert in the church.  Instruments including bassoon, clarinet, piano, cello, violin, trumpet and  piano trio. Please come and support these youngsters, as they are hugely talented and you will really enjoy the playing and their lovely personalities.

And on Sunday, the 10th of March at 4 pm, Manus Noble (worldclass guitarist) will return and give us a concert, on not only the guitar, but a few more related instruments.  Manus of course needs no introduction as he has been several times, and his concerts and personality on stage are breathtaking.  This concert is part of a tour of the country that Manus will be undertaking, and we are very lucky to form part of this highly acclaimed tour.
