I'm Sally, a volunteer at Asylum Welcome, writing on behalf of Janet, our Food Bank Coordinator, and indeed on behalf of all the staff and volunteers here, to thank you all most heartily for your recent most generous donation of food items.
At the moment we are supporting over 100 people a week with food and essential toiletries. From working in the Welcome Centre myself pre-pandemic, I know just how much our clients appreciate and rely on having this lifeline to supplement the pitifully low level of financial support they have to exist on, if indeed any support is available.
Since the start of the pandemic and the closure of the Welcome Centre as a drop-in facility, we have developed a weekly delivery service to our clients and this works well thanks to our dedicated delivery volunteers. When the situation allows, we hope to be able to return to clients collecting food at the Centre, as this gives them more autonomy over their food choices. But no system works if we don't have food to supply, so we are dependent on the continuing generosity of such kind people as yourselves. You are really making a difference and it's heart-warming in these troubled times.
Thank you all again, and our very best wishes to you all for Christmas and the New Year
