You may be aware that Sarah Wyatt, who set up the art club, has sadly left the village for pastures new. However, because we enjoy art club so much, Morgane Tattevin and I have taken over from her with the aim of keeping it ticking along in the same lovely way that Sarah did.
As always, the aim is to create a relaxed, non-judgemental space for people to come along and make their own art and have fun in good company. Sessions are untutored, but create a space where we can share ideas, get inspiration from each other and build a regular art practice so we can improve our art-making skills. There are basic art materials - paper, pencils, a few paints, brushes etc., tea/coffee and good biscuits - so people can get started, however feel free to bring any materials/sketchbooks etc. along that you'd like to use/work on. Where: Reading Room, Great Coxwell. When: 7-9pm, term time only, starting Wednesday 10th September. The initial term will be 6x weeks taking us up to, and including 15th October. Cost: £42 (£7 per session) payable in advance please. If you would be interested in coming along please contact Claire for further details; [email protected] Thank you Claire The next Men's Night will be held in the Reading Room this Thursday August 21st from 7pm to 9pm.
The format will be the same as before, drop in anytime from 7pm, bring along your own beverage of choice, it's all very informal. The Reading Room has glasses so no need to bring anything else. See you next week. This month the Teas will be raising money for Breast Cancer Now.
Please join us for Tea and Cake on Sunday 17th August 2.30 – 5.00 In the Reading Room The Great Coxwell Parish Council and Trustees of the Reading Room Charitable Trust are delighted to announce that the Reading Room now has a fibre broadband internet connection and wi-fi, and would like to thank the Great Coxwell Community Fund for making this possible through a donation.
Instructions for connection are on the wall above the router unit which is located on the built in cupboards. The facility is provided for the Great Coxwell village community and users of the Reading Room. Hello all.
It's Virginia Jealous here. (Yes, that really is my name.) I was born in 1960 in Manor Cottage, baptised in St Giles, went to school at Ferndale and the Elms in Faringdon, and moved out of the village in 1971. I've been based in Australia since 1983. Long time ago... I now unexpectedly and wonderfully find myself back in the village, house-sitting Chapel House while the family are away. I'll be here until late August, I think. I'm making some strange and wonderful (re)connections with place and people - thanks so much to those who I've accosted in passing and who have already shared memories and hospitality! It's very interesting to view such a specific part of childhood through adult eyes. I'd be very happy to catch up with anyone in the village who'd like to revisit - however briefly - that different country of the past. These are only some of the names/events that have stuck with me over the years:
