Sobell House Hospice

Become a Bereavement Support Worker with Sobell House and support someone who has suffered the loss of a loved one.

Have you ever been told you’re an excellent listener? People always tell you how approachable you are?

You could be the perfect person we’re searching for to support clients who have suffered a bereavement. The support can be provided at the hospice, within the client’s home, via telephone, or virtually. And don’t worry, you will receive initial training as well as ongoing training to make sure you are fully prepared.

Men's Night - tomorrow 19th June 7pm to 9pm

18/6/2025

Don't forget tomorrow night 7 - 9 in the Reading Room

The 3rd Men's Night will be held in the Reading Room on Thursday June 19th from 7pm to 9pm, thanks to all those who have attended so far and have hopefully found it a good way to meet and socialise with others in the village, both those they know already and those they haven't yet met.

The format will be the same as before, drop in anytime from 7pm, bring along your own beverage of choice, it's all very informal.

The Reading Room has glasses so no need to bring anything else.

See you then.

‘Summer Puds’ on Sunday 15th June

3/6/2025

‘Summer Puds’ on Sunday 15th June (3.30pm – 6.00pm) at The Old Post Office, Great Coxwell

Great Coxwell Summer puds is back on Sunday 15th June at The Old Post Office 3:30 - 6:00. The tickets are £10 each and that gets you as much homemade pudding as you can eat, as well as a drink (various alcoholic and non-alcoholic choices available). To tempt you some of the delicious puddings on offer will be Trifle, Chocolate Cake, Lemon meringue pie, Tiramisu, Fruit Roulade - to name just a few.

Please bring a bit of extra cash with you on the day as there will be the usual raffle full of goodies and also a special raffle for the beautiful painting completed by Colin Davies in September’s WI meeting. There will also be the chance to buy some additional drinks.

To buy a ticket please either put cash or a cheque through my door at Winterbourne, or drop me a text (07779653744) and I can give you the bank details to do a transfer.

Many Thanks
Pam Holley on behalf of the WI Committee

Appeal for Flower Arrangers

31/5/2025

St Giles Church – Flowers

Do you like flowers or flower arranging? Would you be able to donate a few flowers or hours a year to keep St Giles church looking welcoming? Maybe you would like to mark an anniversary or remember a special person by providing flowers, or doing a special arrangement?

Flowers in our Church are maintained weekly by a very small group of parishioners and we do thank them for their dedication and hard work in keeping the flower arrangements so varied, beautiful and well managed and for keeping St Giles church clean and tidy and welcoming throughout the year. We currently have a team of only eight volunteers to do this, which will very soon reduce to seven.

If you would like to help in any way, please contact Sylvia

GREAT COXWELL ART WEEKS

31/5/2025

I would like to thank everyone of you who contributed to yet another successful Art Weeks in our lovely Village. Many of you made cakes and worked a shift in our pop up cafe. Others contributed items of food or made a cash donation  for us to buy various items of food for the Cafe.
We were very lucky with the weather, staying dry both weekends and therefore had a constant stream of visitors to the Art Weeks exhibition and our Pop Up Cafe. We now have regular visitors who come every year to support the Artists and come to enjoy the wonderful food in our cafe (their words -not mine).
This year we took a total of £2735 and covered all our expenses with the Cash Donations   we received. The only Bill we have to pay is the Reading Room Hire. This means that we are able to pay £2500+ to the Community Fund.
The Community Fund monies are all spent within the Village. If you wish to set up a group we are happy to support you. This year has seen an Art Group set up and a monthly Men's Night.
If you have any ideas of something you would like to see in the Village and need help please contact one of the Community Fund Group. On this note I would like to wish a fond farewell to Annabelle who is leaving us and was one of the Founder Members of Art Weeks & The Community Fund. She will be sadly missed.
Thank You all once again and without you all it would not  be the great success it continues to be.
Pam
